About the Water Intake Calculator
Your body needs water for almost everything, from controlling temperature to carrying nutrients. This water intake calculator gives a personal daily target based on your body weight, how long you exercise and the climate you live in.
How to Use the Water Intake Calculator

- Add your daily exercise in minutes and tick the box if you live in a hot climate.
- Press Calculate to see your daily target in liters, ounces and glasses.
Formula and How It Works
Baseline water = body weight (kg) × 35 ml. Add about 350 ml for every 30 minutes of exercise and 500 ml extra in hot weather. Around 20% of daily water usually comes from food, so the drinking target is a little lower than the total.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do tea, milk and juice count?
Yes, all drinks count towards your intake, and so does water in fruit, vegetables and soup. Plain water is still the best choice.
Can you drink too much water?
Yes, very large amounts in a short time can be dangerous. Spread your drinking across the day and follow your thirst.
