About the Ideal Weight Calculator

There is no single perfect weight, but medical formulas give a useful target range. This ideal weight calculator compares four well-known formulas and the healthy BMI range so you can see a realistic goal for your height and gender.

How to Use the Ideal Weight Calculator

  1. Select your units and gender.
  2. Enter your height.
  3. Press Calculate to compare the results of each formula.

Formula and How It Works

Devine (men): 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet; (women) 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg. Robinson, Miller and Hamwi use the same idea with slightly different numbers. The healthy BMI range is a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 for your height.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ideal weight formula is best?

None is perfect. The Devine formula is widely used by doctors for medicine doses, while the BMI range is the broadest and most practical target for most adults.

Does ideal weight depend on body frame?

Yes. People with a larger frame or more muscle can be healthy at the top of the range or slightly above it.
