Formula and How It Works

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between mean and median?
The mean adds everything and divides, so very large or small values can pull it up or down. The median is the middle value and is not affected by extremes.
Sample or population standard deviation?
Use the population value when your list contains every item. Use the sample value when the list is a sample taken from a larger group.
