Pace Calculator
Calculate running or walking pace per kilometer and per mile, and your average speed, from distance and time.
About the Pace Calculator
The pace calculator tells runners, walkers and cyclists how fast they are going. Enter the distance and your finishing time to get your pace per kilometer and per mile, your average speed and predicted times for popular race distances.
How to Use the Pace Calculator
- Enter the distance and choose the unit.
- Enter your total time in hours, minutes and seconds.
- Press Calculate to see pace, speed and race predictions.
Formula and How It Works
Pace = time ÷ distance, and speed = distance ÷ time. Race predictions use Riegel’s formula: T2 = T1 × (D2 ÷ D1)^1.06, which allows for slowing down over longer distances.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good 5K pace?
For a beginner, 6:30–8:00 minutes per km is common. Experienced club runners often run 4:00–5:00 per km.
How accurate are race predictions?
They are best when predicting a nearby distance and assume you have trained for the longer race.
